Urban Water Rescue Considerations

Many rescuers are qualified to perform swift water rescue operations in navigable waters, rivers, and streams. With respect to Urban Flooding the circumstances surrounding rescue change a bit. Applying traditional swiftwater rescue techniques in an urban flood environment could have catastrophic results if the hazards are not properly identified. This program highlights water craft (tiller versus console driven), pre-planning operations, hazards you may encounter (signs, fences, vehicles etc.) water dynamics, hazardous materials, debris, natural hazard assessment, mapping, deep water vehicles and more. This program will also address the different types of water rescue disciplines outlined in NFPA 1006: Standard for Technical Rescue Personnel Professional Qualifications and NFPA 1670: Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents and how that affects individuals and teams alike. This course is ideal for any department or member of a water rescue team. This program will be presented at the 2019 International Association of Water Rescue Professionals (IAWRP) Annual Conference in South Bend, Indiana and was recently featured at RESCUE18, An international Search and Rescue conference in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Tower rescue awareness

We now see cellular and radio antennas on billboards, transmission towers, buildings, telephone poles, water towers and of course cell towers. These towers are in everyone’s backyard and this program will present information to keep responders safe. The presentation includes scene size-up, incident management, hazard recognition, radiofrequency (RF) transmissions hazards, RF meters, rescue considerations, tower types, fall protection concerns, work from heights, and more. This program meets the intent of NFPA 1006: Standard for Technical Rescue Personnel Professional Qualifications (2017 Edition) Chapter 4.1 (Awareness Level)
